New Homes

All new homes built in Victoria must comply with the 5 Star Standard.  If you plan on building or renovating your home, an energy-efficient design can save money on your bills and you can help protect the environment.  By working with your building practitioner, you can design and build a home that is comfortable all year round and can provide yearly savings on your energy and water bills.

Did you know?

With good passive design you can reduce heating and cooling emissions:

  • Shade east and west walls and windows
  • Use good design and not heating
  • Ventilate roof spaces
  • Use reflective insulation

Are you a registered building practitioner? - The first question you should ask.

Building or renovating a home for most people is an exciting and satisfying process. It allows you to chose the design and surroundings that you wish to live in, according to your lifestyle.

There are many considerations to make before starting your building such as whether your job requires a building permit, a planning permit and/or a major domestic building contract. Then there's the question of selecting which contractors your building work requires and what other requirements and regulations are needed to complete the job and maintain your building. Whatever your needs, you can be confident that a registered Building Practitioner has the qualifications, knowledge and experience and domestic building insurance to carry out your plans.

The guide focuses on the options and choices that arise when building, buying or extending a home. It helps home owners understand how these choices can either potentially lock you into using more water than you need, or allow you to permanently and easily reduce your water use. It brings together information and advice about a wide range of water conservation and alternative supply measures in a simple and easy to read format, so you can develop the best package of measures for your circumstances. What is Carbon Neutral?

The term 'carbon neutral' aims to balance the overall amount of CO2 being emitted into the atmosphere, by calculating how much CO2 is being emitted from an activity and reducing the equivalent amount of CO2 in another activity.
