What are rebates and where can I find further information?

A rebate is a 'contribution' to the total cost of a product by the Government in a particular program.  It may be paid to you at the end of the financial year after making a claim, or the rebate may be automatically deducted from the retail price so you only pay the smaller amount upfront. The Federal Government is also offering rebates on renewable electricity, including solar panels for households.
