POOLS AND SPASpools and spas

During the summer months, evaporation can reduce the water levels in pools and spas, which makes owning one a thirsty business. Current water restrictions may limit how you fill or top up a new or existing swimming pool and spa - buying water from one of the accredited suppliers can make maintaining a pool an expensive business.

You can still enjoy the great leisure activities your pool or spa offers if you follow a few simple water conservation guidelines.

How do I prevent water evaporation?

Evaporation is a major cause of water loss from your swimming pool. It is important to remember that the evaporation rate is highest in the early evening as the air cools and the water remains warm. A pool cover or blanket can prevent up to 95% of evaporation. Increasing the shade over your pool with a shade sail or adjusting the landscape to prevent wind exposure can also reduce water loss.

What water efficient products are available to me?

There are many water efficiency products available that can help reduce water loss from your pool. Pool blankets, pool covers and shade sails or other shading structures can reduce evaporation. Water management systems, such as pre-filtration centrifugal pumps, specialised pool skimmers and cartridge filters can all save water. In addition, water tanks or rainwater diverters can help maintain water levels at minimal cost.

What water restrictions apply for pools?

With severe water restrictions in force throughout Victoria, the swimming pool and spa industry has had to adjust.
